Pere Labat 59

This an unaged rhum agricole from the island of Marie-Galante (part of Guadeloupe). The Distillerie Poisson sits on a bed of rich limestone and volcanic soil. This distillery has been making fresh cane juice rums for over 100 years using hand harvesting and "minimal intervention". The website mentioned the 66 square mile island is 20% cane fields with a few other distilleries also there. This rhum is made using one of four local cane varieties using a column still acquired in the 70s. It comes off the still around 69% then is rested 10-15 days in wooden foudres then bottled at "local" proof of 59% using local mineral water.
